Paris to Yatton by bike for Meningitis UK
A group of 14 flew from Bristol to Paris on Saturday 25th June, all collecting for different charities. Cycle started from under the Eiffel Tower, then returned to Yatton via, Versailles, Evreux, Honfleur, Caen, Portsmouth, Salisbury and Frome, cycling 330 miles in the process. Sunday between Versailles and Evreux we cycled 71 miles in 100°F of Heat and Monday between Evreux and Honfleur 65 miles in 118°F heat, Normandy’s hottest day for 90 years. Over the Sunday and Monday we drank 10 litres of liquid (Not Beer) each, without the need to visit the gents once, literally the liquid past through every part of the body. The English side was cooler and fewer miles, approximately 45 miles per day. Graham Goodhind and myself have collected approximately £4k for Meningitis UK, inspired by the death of a mutual friends 21 month old daughter Ruby. Months of training had seen us frequent many pubs as well as conquering Cheddar gorge on regular 30 mile practice runs clad in very fetching Lycra!
Our thanks go to the Masonic family who donated a good percentage of the money, as did the local community, friends, Business and Yeo Valley Lions.
