The indoor Craft v Mark bowls match is now firmly established in the Provincial calendar, organised by the Somerset Masonic Bowling Association members Mike Adams, David Perkins and Gerry Peace it is always an enjoyable morning for those of us who are regular players as well as those who aren't. Taunton Deane Bowling club is the venue, the facilities are first class with six rinks. On the morning of the 15th March the two teams of 16 players meet for the match led by team captains, Stuart Hadler for the Craft and Ray Guthrie for the Mark. The four rinks commence battle and very soon the Minehead Mark Mafia on rink five have built up a substantial lead, after 11 ends they are leading 25 to 5! The other rinks were a little more evenly matched and after 18 ends the score across the four rinks is Mark 74 Craft 72, a very close result. After the match the players enjoyed lunch provided by the club.
The PGM Stuart Hadler giving instructions to his fellow team members, Tony Everett on the mat watches as his wood heads towards the jack.
Concentration is etched on the brow of Frank Silver as he delivers another excellent wood for the Mark team.
Is that really the score? The Minehead team comprising Norman and Leigh Ackland, Tony Everett and John Munson go way ahead on rink 5!
