George Norman Lodge 75 is years old.
The Provincial Grand Master and his team joined the members of the George Norman Lodge to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the consecration of the lodge at Yatton.
The occasion began with an advancement ceremony for Bro. Bill Lawrence that was attended by 62 brethren. Our Provincial Grand Master presented a Grand Lodge certificate to Bro. Alan Edwards who was born one year before the lodge was consecrated.
At a very convivial festive board, our Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Alan Patrick Parker, proposed an excellent toast to the founder members of the lodge. One of the founders, HG Parker was Pat's father, who in the same year, 1937 was also Senior Warden of Carnarvon Lodge MMM No 119 at Keynsham. VWBro. Pat explained that at a committee meting held on 16th December 1937, it was decided that the lodge should subscribe to the Keystone Fund. This required a donation of £80 (at an annual inflation rate of 3.7% this would be roughly equivalent to £1400 to-day) which 2 brethren were prepared to loan the lodge on an interest free basis until the loan could be repaid. This explained why the George Norman Lodge was a keystone lodge prior to its first regular meeting which was held on 16th March 1938.
To round off the celebrations for this very special occasion, Worshipful Master James Gilbody and our Provincial Grand Master joined forces to cut the 75th anniversary cake which was then enjoyed by all.
