News and comments on the financial problems at the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons

The catering operation at Mark Masons Hall has lost over £1 million. The new company formed to sell regalia has lost nearly £150K. There is a pensions 'black hole' of nearly £2 million. Does the Grand Secretary and the General Board have a plan, no one is quite sure. Since the vote in Grand Lodge on the 8th June, I have had more information passed to me by various brethren outside our Province, some have asked that their name should not be included on the entry. This is quite a reasonable request as the Grand Secretary, in his email of the 15th March 2008 to Provincial Grand Masters, indicates that anyone stepping out of line will have to be dealt with. I believe the information on this blog to be accurate and correctly attributed and that the comments of various brethren are their own views. What will the next accounts look like?

It will be interesting to see if the accounts for the YE August 2010 have stopped the rot. However if GLMMM follow their usual pattern they won't publish the accounts until the last possible moment, which will be in May next year. By which time they hope the fuss will have died down and they will be able to say that things have improved. It will be interesting to see if the Auditors qualify their report this time. I would expect the accounts to show another substantial loss, the fuss did not blow up until a few months ago by which time the perpetrators had almost another full year.

I am surprised no one at the top have felt obliged to offer their resignations over this. But there we go, no one these days accepts any blame. Grand Lodge will have to write off the £1m+ deficit.
