A Pilgrimage to the Winchester (Shakespeare’s Head)

Four times a year, Brethren from across the constitution descend on London, to celebrate their worthy and distinguished friends receive recognition for the contribution to the order, by way of receiving Mark or Royal Ark Marine Grand Rank.

On the second Tuesday of September 2024, it was the turn of John Nicholson Snr, Barry Renwick and Chris Court to receive promotion in Mark Grand Rank to Past Grand Junior Overseer, Past Grand Senior Deacon and Past Grand Junior Deacon respectively.

Everyone met in the Winchester (Shakespeare’s Head) to have a drink and wait for the world to blow over. They then ventured to the Grand Temple at Freemasons Hall to receive their honours. The temple is adjourned with neo classical architecture, passing through the Grand Temple doors into the magnificent interior of the temple. Where several historic and allegorical figures adorn the ornate ceiling.

Guests then went onto the Grand Connaught Rooms for Dinner. Before heading back home on the train.

The next outing to London will be for the Royal Ark Mariner Assembly in December where to Brethren from Somerset will receive their Royal Ark Mariner Grand Rank.
