Welcome to our new Provincial Grand Master!

WBro Anthony R Guthrie PGSD DPrGM, to be installed as the 17th Provincial Grand Master on May 7th

Following the announcement that our Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro Phil Voisey will retire in May, the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons have been pleased to announce that our Deputy Provincial Grand Master, W Bro Tony Guthrie, will be installed as his successor on May 7th at The Webbington Hotel, Axbridge.

W Bro Tony is a very active Freemason within the Province in Somerset and as well as being the current Deputy Provincial Grand Master has also served for almost 4 years as one of the Assistant Provincial Grand Masters in the Craft, a position he will retire from at the Craft AGM on April 2nd this year before taking up his new Appointment as our PGM in the Mark.

Tony was Initiated into Priory Lodge 6913 on the 12th February 1999 and Raised on the 14th May in the same year. He was Advanced into the Carnarvon MMM Lodge in June 2004 and was the Founding Senior Warden of St Andrews MMM Lodge in 2012, becoming it’s Master the following year then Serving as Carnarvon’s Master in 2015 and 2016.

Tony was appointed to Provincial Rank in 2013 as Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies, a post he held for two years, then serving for three years as the Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies before being Appointed as Deputy Provincial Grand Master in 2019. His first Grand Lodge appointment was in 2018 to Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and he was promoted to the Rank of Past Senior Grand Deacon last year.

Tony’s list of Lodge Memberships are too numerous to mention but he is a Grand Officer in Craft and Royal Arch, a Holder of Royal Ark Mariner Grand Rank and a Past Provincial Officer in Knights Templar. He manages to visit many of his Lodges on a regular basis, while still running his own electrical businessAs our Provincial Grand Master said in his retirement letter, Tony will bring new energy to the Mark Degree, and I am sure we will all see the benefits of this. He will be installed as our 17th Provincial Grand Master at the Mark Annual Meeting on the 7th of May at the Webbington Hotel, Axbridge and I am sure that there will be a goodly number of Mark Master Masons from Somerset and the surrounding Provinces to support him in what should be a thoroughly enjoyable day so please mark it in your diaries!!
