Mark Grand Lodge

On the second Tuesday in September, several brethren from Somerset made the annual pilgrimage to Freemasons’ Hall, London, to attend the meeting of Mark Grand Lodge.

As is tradition, the day began with a convivial stop at the Shakespeare’s Head, where Somerset companions gathered to share in fellowship before the formal proceedings. Spirits were high as the brethren then made their way into the Grand Temple, where they joined hundreds of Mark Masons from across the constitution to witness the investiture of some 150 brethren receiving promotion in Mark Grand Rank.

Of particular pride to Somerset was the preferment of both W. Bro. Anthony R. Guthrie and W. Bro. Paul Brice-Bullows to Past Grand Senior Deacons, whose contributions to the Province were deservedly recognised on this national stage.

Following the ceremony, the Somerset contingent moved on to the Prince of Wales for a welcome aperitif before proceeding to the Grand Connaught Rooms. There, a splendid banquet was served in the Great Hall, accompanied by a selection of delectable wines. The occasion provided the perfect opportunity for brethren to celebrate together and to reflect on the honour of the day.

The Provincial Grand Master for Somerset remarked how proud he was of the Province, both for those receiving honours and for the continued support and presence of Somerset brethren at such distinguished gatherings.
