Annual Mark Golf Day 2025 at Wedmore Golf Club

The Annual Mark Golf Day held its 19th iteration at the Isle of Wedmore Golf Club  on Wednesday 18th June 2025. The weather was absolutely fantastic for the 50 or so golfers who made the journey into the heart of the Province and the Somerset Brethren were very grateful for the company of many guests from outside the Province too, with Wiltshire, Bristol and Gloucestershire & Herefordshire Members present as well.

The teams started arriving at the Clubhouse around 0930 and Richard Stone our long time event organiser, ably assisted by Dan Witcombe and Martin Hares began the process of sorting out the teams, cards, handicaps and bacon rolls ready for an 1100 start.

As the golfers rolled back into the clubhouse at around 1530, somewhat weary having spent several hours in the glorious sunshine, the bar sprang into life and a delicious meal was enjoyed by all before the results were announced and prizes distributed.

The main event is always the Team Competition and we were delighted to have with us Dee Kellett, widow of our well known and much missed friend Eric Kellett who organised the event for many years in it’s early days. Dee is seen here presenting the Kellett Cup to the winning captain, Mark Fountain and the rest of  his team, namely Jeff Body, Jim Gilbody and Sam Gilbody.

Our Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Tony Guthrie somehow managed to capture the Provincial Grand Masters Shield for the best individual score on the day, pipping Somerset’s Graham Jeffery and Wiltshire’s Merv Johns on countback. Organiser Richard Stone can be seen here presenting Tony with the trophy (for a record fourth time!)

The day realised around £500.00 from the players who attended and those monies will be donated to the Somerset 2028 MBF Festival Appeal. A huge thank you must go to the event organiser Richard Stone, his helpers (Dan Witcombe and Martin Hares), Dee Kellett for coming along to present our winners trophy and of course all the players for their generosity and warm support

Next year will be the 20th running of the competition and once again will be held at the Isle of Wedmore Golf Club on June 17th 2026. We will be inviting Teams from further afield to help raise funds for the 2028 MBF Festival and it is hoped that the 20th Birthday Celebration will be our biggest and best Golf Day so far, so please do save the date in your diaries, booking details will follow on the website as soon as they are available
